Are you due a refund from the City Utilities? Check your bills, past and future

It doesn't take long for a company to collect hundreds, even thousands of dollars by their customers due to a simple mistake on their bills.

This photo is a snipit of a current Utility bill which shows the customer paid $10 more than due giving them a credit of $10, but based on this bill the customer was issued a penalty for the past due amount.

Remember the past due amount was a credit of $10. 

My theory on how this happened - the bills are or could be computer generated and the program has a flaw where if ANY amount of money whether a credit or negative amount is in the past due field, it automatically issues a penalty charge to the customer.

Some may not even catch the penalty charge because they saw they had a credit and the balance due has been reduced by that amount of credit. 

We posted this because if this customer was charged then others may be charged incorrectly too. So be sure to check your water bills, even those in the past. You could be owed a credit for overpaying.
