Is the construction downtown apartments being built safely?

Having been in construction, and knowing a bit of engineering, I am concerned with the balcony construction of the new downtown apartments. They are freestanding, only using 2x4 and bracket bracing from what I can see. Should have used steel I beams or cantilevered wooden 4x4's. It would be a tragedy if 12-15 New Years revelers fell due to poor construction.
