The hospital definitely shouldn't have a voting seat or play in the contract just the approval of it

Observer "Kristen and Phil Swaim do not want public input outside of City Council meetings probably because most of Columbus is uneducated compared to our Harvard educated idiot. Swaim has commented about how many boards and how much oversight there is as if it is too much. Kristen Brown would be a dictator and govern by decree if not for the Council. There are clearly some divisions at City Hall as people are starting to realize that the monster we elected to fix things is going to be hard to reign in. "

Don't put words in my mouth. I said we have 30 or so different boards and committees. That's a lot of committees. It adds a great level of complexity to government to have so many committees. don't get me wrong. Most of them are definitely needed.

I have never been against input. Where have I ever said that? And yes, I always encourage people to go to city council meetings and express their thoughts. That's a great way to get information through. I don't know how many of your went to city council meetings under Armstrong, but man.... he was just offensive to people who dared make a comment or want to bring a question to the council.

It's like night and day now. Go to a city council meeting and every piece of business is open to the public for input and questions, and everyone has the ability to address the council for anything as a discussion item at the end of the meeting.

We never had that under armstrong, at least not within his last 4 years.

I don't know what may or may not be happening behind closed doors or if doors are even being closed. All I know is that if you ask questions, you will receive answers unlike the last administration where many people including myself had to dig and dig in various files to find the answers and find the politicians to be liars or just negligent.

And let's understand something. The hospital should definitely not have a voting seat in this board, but municipal code was written probably with the understanding that the hospital in Bartholomew County would be a main player in ambulance services for the city and county. But honestly, the hospital won't have a play in the contract, just approval of the contract.

You see, the board of public works and safety is the governing body for the ambulance contracts. All the ambulance board does is have open public discussion between the city, county, and the hospital. Then they make the final sign off on the contract, but the contract is in the name of the board of public works and safety.

So Kristen Brown is proceeding correctly. The board of public works and safety will bid the contract out and then the ambulance board will approve or disapprove of it. If they approve, it's ago. If not, then it's back to the drawing board.

I don't know why people are getting the idea that it is the object of the mayor for the city to wholly provide ambulance services. Private entities (including the hospital) are bidding and the Fire Department has put together a bid. It's competition and competition is good.

If you have questions, go to these meetings and ask them or go to city hall and talk to Kristen or some of these board members. Find out what's going on. So far this article is just a bunch of suppositions extended on no basis other than a couple moves made by the mayor and written about in the paper. Find some evidence and some supporting quotes.

Well of course they shouldn't. That would be like a criminal getting to vote on whether he is guilty or not. Being that the hospital is one of the companies bidding on the job no they need to sit out.

Under your rationale, the city should also sit out because the fire department os bidding on it. Hello?

Shame on you, Swaim. You've been to council meetings for years, so you know that the statement "We never had that under armstrong, at least not within his last 4 years" is a lie. Indeed, about the only time debate has recently been cut off was during the recycling debate, when Mayor Fred was out of town and it was Council President Martha Myers who shut down the public input. Armstrong and the last council went further, with frequent public meetings on issues impacting the community.

And further congrats to the Republicans in your Precinct for soundly rejecting your bid for party committeeman by a decisive 3-to-1 margin.

No, shame on Fred for doing exactly what I said he did. I attended City Council meetings under Fred and am reporting exactly what I observed.

And a hearty congratulations on my State Delegate bid is in order. I believe I beat out 3 Ogles (big names in county party politics). So I see that as a great victory and am thankful to my fellow party members for casting their votes.

Joe Bill Whipker has been in the precinct for a looonnngg time. So it's purely name recognition for the reason he won. I was putting my name in to give fellow Republicans an alternative. I wasn't running against Joe Bill Whipker. I was just running for the office to serve. Fellow party members clearly are happy with their current representation in the County committee. I support them and will support my committeeman in his efforts in my precinct.
