I don't know if I believe the excuse, the driver of the barely submerged van, fell asleep behind the wheel this morning causing her to plunge into Cummins retention pond.

The pond is located on Cummins property across from Centra Credit Union on National Road.

It is reported by The Republic the woman dosed off behind the wheel and avoided injury, except she refused treatment so how can we know if she avoided any injury?

We received a photo on our Facebook with the van in the pond, but the paper reports Officer James entered the water and was waist deep, "the vehicle filling with water and sitting precariously on a slope where it could easily slide further into the pond."

At most it was calf deep, talk about an exaggeration!

The fence along National road, which spans the entire pond edge didn't offer any protection in keeping her from driving over the fence and entering the pond coming to a rest at the edge.

The woman said she was driving north on U.S. 31 on her way to visit her husband at an Indianapolis hospital.

The accident is reported to have happened at 7:15, the photo shared with us was posted at 7:35am, no wrecker service is in site.

You'd think if you're that sleepy, you'd have the common sense to sleep before you drive a vehicle, not while you drive a vehicle. These people must have a gene missing from their gene pool.

The story says something about her visiting her husband who is hospitalized. I have had relatives so severely ill in the hospital, that family members got little sleep, and made frequent trips to see their loved one. Accidents happen, and most of the time, we don't know the real story, or all of the story.

The pond is clearly deeper than "calf deep", but even if it wasn't, what is the big deal about whether it was calf deep or waist deep? Some people will complain about anything.

You don't see the irony in your comment...

Some people will complain about anything.

I've read 3-4 comments about you complaining about the articles. Hard to see what we criticize so many others for but yet we do without knowing. I'm sure your complaining is justified though isn't it.

There were several late afternoons coming home from Bloomington, with the sun and heat at my back, feeling very, very sleepy, and had a todler on board. It happens(becoming so sleepy) before you know it. I know on one occasion, I had to pull off 46, and get out, and wake up, and this was in the late afternoon hours. I can say it was worse driving to drive sleepy, than to drive drunk. On my drunkest night of driving, I was all over the road, as I was at 5 in the afternoon, just from the warmth of the sun....sleep will sneak up on you if you're not aware of your being....

First of all - the paper does not mention an officer James, Officer Ben Quisenbery was the officer who responded (according to the Republic that you misquoted.) You are always putting down the Republic for not getting facts correct, maybe you shouldn't point fingers. And, how do you know how deep the water was - it looks like the person who wrote the article was too busy taking pictures to help this lady. I am sure it didn't matter to her how deep the water was, she was probably fairly frightened. But I guess it's just easier to make sure once again, that reporting something that an officer did right is just too much to ask for.

It does mention Officer or Partolman

Patrolman Ben Quesenbery was first to arrive

If you knew, Patrolman Ben Quesenbery's first name is JAMES.

the paper does not mention an officer James, Officer Ben Quisenbery

We didn't take the photos, but it is clear the officer didn't wade in waist deep water.

I'm sorry if I confused you - you quoted the Republic as officer James, the article says Ben Q....... - I don't care if he goes by James, if you are going to quote the Republic, then please get it right.

Hope your boy chooses better words to use than you do. Using such language just belittles your whole point of view.

I've said it before, and looks like I will say it again, if you don't like the way we do it then do some reporting of your own. We will post it, stop talking about the negative and start giving some positive.

So Michelle you're saying you was there and watched the officer walk to the back of the van? Why would he need to go to the back of the van, the point is, the local paper wasn't present and doesn't know other than what they were told.

Which is funny because when others tell them it isn't true.

We aren't investigators why can't you understand that. If you don't want to visit us anymore, that is fine, but I bet you will just to see what else we have done that a 9 year old can do better.

Ok read what I said ...my 9 yr old cousin! Did u not like that I said freakin....and wtf? Ill speak however I want to and I never said they went to the back of the van, I said the sliding door to open the front door, and was just pointing out that tye back of the van is well above the waist. But in other post you say we have investigators that check before we post articles. Hmmm. Oh and by the way I didnt come back to this site on purpose. It was up on my computer cause the last thing I did was comment on this post. It just irrates me that you guys say one thing in a comment on an article and in another one its different. idk if its a bunch of different admins that do things dofferent by han others. But its just a little weird that you say one thing...then later something opposite. sorry for any misspelled words im typing fast and my spell check isnt working for some reason.

i agree with michelle. Their has been previous articles where you have said things and in another article its some opposite. She has a point. I see that in the picture that it is more than waist deep in the very back. And its pretty close to handle. You just go to far with your comments bringing up stuff that doesnt really matter. Like the cop thing I read in another post.

I don't see any photos of the rescue attempt, or any witnesses comments who may have seen the rescue attempt, so NO...it is NOT clear. And as I said before, why are you so hell bent on the difference between reporting it was waist deep or calf deep?

Was the van in a different position before the pic was taken?
Did we witness the rescue attempt?
Could the officer have been in deeper water during the rescue for some important reason that we are unaware of?
Shoddy "reporting" IMO.

Just thankful this lady didn't get hurt. Sounds like she has a lot on her plate w her husband being in an Indy Hosp. Accidents can happen in a blink of an eye. And you don't need much water to drown in.

What's most gracious about this, is no unintentional death or injury to a passerby was a result.
