Hydrant leaking at 9th and Chestnut, guess this is the proof of the neglected annual servicing

Among other things we have reported on here, this isn't the first time we've talked about the neglect of hydrants throughout Columbus.

Here is a prime example of one severely neglected hydrant; it's hard telling how long it has been flooding the streets.

Sure the utilities may say "Oh, we already knew about that this hydrant and it is on the list to be fixed", whatever, the point is, the hydrants shouldn't make it to this point.

This hydrant has a steady drip, who pays for this? Tax payors do!

Most municipalities either follow AWWA guidelines...which calls for once a year maintenance inspections (By the way, flushing them out is not an inspection) OR most fire departments follow NFPA guidelines under NFPA #25. -says the Hyrdant Doc.

Not Columbus, they sure don't follow the procedures outlined in preventative maintenance common sense book. It's not their money, I should say, it's not Keith Reese's money.

If you take a stroll down Chestnut St and take a peak at some of the hydrants, you can see they are sad. They need painted (which I am sure people would volunteer to paint), some even look like they are barely holding up. One hydrant has sunk into the ground, the base is no longer visible.

The "red" hydrant outside on North High School along Home Ave, well that appears to be the worst of them all.

This is our town, city, and we need to make sure the systems are maintained correctly, if they aren't then those in charge need REPLACED!

1st- Why and how would tax payers be charged for a leaking hydrant? There's no meter on it as brick layer pointed out. Use this "free water" from a dripping hydrant to water your dog with.

2nd- Your article must have done the trick. Keith "Reese" is not employed at Columbus Utilities
