There are groups locally attempting to start cricket and lacrosse here in Columbus. But according to Parks and Rec, ALL the playing fields in our parks are booked solid.

We have NO room for growth of amateur sports, which is what fueled the plans for a new sports complex downtown. The plans our new Mayor and Council just cancelled because Mayor Harvard says amateur sports like softball “add nothing to Columbus.” In fact, Kristen appears to hate softball so much, she was prepared to pay EXTRA (of your tax dollars, of course) just to turn back the financing.

But at a recent public appearance, our new Mayor disclosed what she DOES want to bring to our fair city – she wants to turn the Crump into an Opera House.

Mayor Kristen Brown: NO to needed sports fields for our families, YES to a new opera house for her and her other wealthy Carmel-wannabe friends. Certainly a different vision for Columbus.

You feel it's needed, go raise the money to build it and maintain it on your own initiative. This goes for Opera houses too. Governments role in expenditures should be for needs not wants. Citizens in our community will benefit more from monies spent prudently elsewhere.

The distinction for BL and Olden is easy: What THEY favor are needs and what the rest of us favor are wants.

And how hard is it to figure out that if the fields are not available during the hours they are needed, then it doesn't matter that they are empty during work hours -- or midnight.

1 i agree with BL
2. I don't believe it. The paal football fields are stitting there empty most of the year, which it the kind of field you would need for lacrosse anyway. ( I have to admit, i don't know what kind of field is need for cricket.) I see empty fields all the time. You many not get to use them at prime times of the evenings or weekends due to other leagues, but field are open.
3. What about the schools, i thought they put astroturf on the football fields so that they could be used for more than just football, but i don't see them used any more than when they were grass.

Reeeaaalllyy? Well I know for a fact that a group of men that appeared to be of middle eastern descent (I am not racial profiling here these guys where pretty dark complected and a few of them had on t-shirts that had the cummings logo on them) playing a game of what I am very certain was cricket. I have seen them there a lot, and by a lot I mean the three of four times a week I go to take my dog walking over there on the trail. I even seen where there were baseball and softball games being play on the other fields and these guys seemed to still be able to a field to play on so I calling BS on this one.
