Since our reporting of the improper titled "Engineer" at the Columbus Utilities office, the director, Keith Reeves has now renewed his Engineering License with the State of Indiana. This is a step in the right direction; Now Columbus is compliant with Indiana Law in the sense the title is or will be changed with Edward Bergsieker soon.

This means The City of Columbus has 2 licensed Engineers who hold active Engineer licenses.

Keith Reeves
License No: PE60018665
Profession:  Engineer Board
License Type: Professional Engineer
Obtained By Method: Comity
Issue Date: 1/10/1980
Expiration Date: 7/31/2012 (Expires in 4 months)
License Status: Active

Good job Columbuzz!

And I might note, the City of Franklin's PE count, despite Joe McGuinness' campaign promise, is a big honkin' ZERO.

BTW, they can call the other guy Assistant TO The Engineer, Engineer's Assistant, NOT "Assistant Engineer" - If he's got a degree, why the heck doesn't he just take the exam? Odd.

Reeves: "Before coming to the Utilities [Bergsieker] was a Project Engineer for the Indiana Department of Highways." BUT "He has never been registered as a professional engineer in the State of Indiana." ??

Folks, INDOT is not going to do something as boneheaded as that. INDOT will NOT hire you AS an engineer unless you ARE an engineer. With a LICENSE. That statement is fishy.

"He was hired by the Utilities at my recommendation in 1992, in the position of Assistant Utilities Engineer. Upon my promotion to Director in 1998, I promoted him to the position of Utilities Engineer that he now holds... He has never claimed to be, and he has never been required by the Utilities to obtain professional registration."

Well, DUH, Keith! If your city has jobs for engineers, then you have job descriptions for engineers. You as an engineer should know better than to hire somebody unlicensed and CALL him an engineer, but for crissake, if you need to SPELL IT OUT in your job descriptions, if it isn't already, then get it together, City of Columbus. C'mon, you people aren't FRANKLIN, you're the Athens of the Prairie!!

that's one of their -can't catch me- replies. their (meaning reeves/bergsieker) replies will always be: 1) i didn't know that. 2) i don't remember that. 3) i didn't say that. all a bunch of lies.

The fact that there "was" no true engineer at the City Utilities is the least of your worries! Someone needs to take a real hard look at the management there and break it down from the top and you will see all the real problems come out. It's time for a change! Where is the Utilities board and why haven't they done anything with the upper management there in almost 20 years??
