Union City Community High school on lock down

Union City, IND - The entire police force including the school Super Superintendent, Brent Lehman, are at Union City Community School this morning for what we're told was a bomb scare, but Jim Bush, principle, said he can't comment why the police are at the school today. 

We called last night and spoke to the Sheriff Department dispatch who stated "My supervisor said any questions relating to the bomb scare, should be directed to the Chief of police, Cobie Wells"

Today we spoke with the superintendent and principle who both said "We're not aware of any RUMOR about a bomb"; so we asked if the police were stationed at the school today? On speaker phone they stated "We do have police officers here today"; so we asked why?

"This happens quite frequently OK, the police are in here once a week checking in once a week. We do have a good working relationship with the police."

We also asked about the student asked not to come to school today and was told "we can't discuss student issues".

We're told "bullying isn't an issue, and hasn't caused anyone to drop out" said Jim Bush.

The month of October at Union City Community High school is "Good Decisions Month" (Red Ribbon Week) The Chief of police held two separate convocations about bullying; which caused the student body to start a bullying group to help kids deal with bullying issues.

"We are very well aware of society and what's happening today and we're dealing with it up front and trying to be proactive." school officials.

We brought up the police visiting today, and asked if they were looking for anything in particular. You need to talk to Chief Wells. We have no further comment.

Beach Grove school is also on a lock down with police station at the school because of a bomb scare.
