Gary Henderson, Fire Chief, requested board approval to donate the Fire Department’s 2002 Ford Taurus to the Volunteer Fire Department in Oldenburg. Judy Jackson made a motion to approve the request. Mayor Armstrong seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Am I the only one who is thinking, what the heck?

Why should we donate a car used by our local fire department to Franklin County when we have Clay Township Fire Department needing financial help.

Couldn't a station within Bartholomew county benefit from the use of the car?

It seems odd county property is just given away, and is probably done often without many knowing about it. I think, tax payers of Bartholomew County helped pay for the 2002 Ford Taurus and yet it could be sold to help put money back into the county somewhere else.

The car is city property, not county property. Thus paid for by city taxpayers, not county taxpayers.

Perhaps all of the departments in Bartholomew county were contacted about this particular vehicle and turned it down. Despite what you see from the City and Columbus township, most volunteer departments don't issue take home vehicles.
