County jail over crowded already, Clifton Cook in best part of jail

The medical wing is equipped with nicer amenities than the standard cell blocks, making the medical ward a stay of choice among inmates. Whereas the standard issued inmate is given a 6" thick mat to sleep on, and a wool blanket.

If you know anything about Columbus, you know the jail isn't somewhere you want to be, but if you do visit, it is almost top of the line in pampering.

The cell blocks within the walls of the jail house keep inmates based on type of crime and sex; recently the jail built a new addition to accommodate the over population problem.

It seems crime in Bartholomew County still has the jail packed to it's maximum, requiring placing inmates in reserved sections of the jail for the medically ill.

Clifton Cook, 46, accused of killing Gary Brown of Greensburg with a 9mm gun, which WON'T be found per sources. Clifton is in isolation (benefiting from a softer bed, pillow, and a nice blanket while in the medical wing) at the Bartholomew County jail because it is safer than placing him in "general population".

Sheriff Gary Meyers, says Clifton is locked in the "medical wing of the Bartholomew County Jail, only because other cells were full."

It is a shame instead of telling the real reason why, they claim it is because Bartholomew County jail is over crowded. Wonder if he will be moved when some are released. How many were released this week or arrested and released.

While in court Clifton said "I understand the charge against me." Judge Heimann scheduled trial for Feburary 21, 2011 at 8:30AM, it is reported that Clifton hired the best attorney in Columbus, Rod McGillivray to represent him.

For a little bit of clerification, this article is wrong. The jail IS NOT overcrowded, and Medical IS NOT the place to be. In all other blocks the inmates are out at least one hour a day to get to watch tv, etc. This IS NOT the case in medical. The mats and blankets used in medical are the same as those used in the blocks upstairs, but due to the fact that they do not leave medical they are not wearing down as quickly. As someone who works in the jail, I know this to be fact.
