How is a Fish Fry, which people pay in Cash, any different then the Garage turning trash into profit

Another area of government that does about the same thing, in using facilities that are supposed to be for government purposes is Fish Fry event held in Firehouses and such...The tax payer pays for the facility for the Fire Department to hold the events in them.  In some small communities, if it weren't for these type of events, they would never get new equipment or even the smallest festivity.

How is a Fish Fry, which people pay in Cash, any different then the Garage turning trash into profit for the department?  If you really think about it, many government offices use facilities that are meant to be used for government purposes and payed for by the tax payer, but at some point in time, they end up being used for alternative purposes for cash and funding of that department.

The library for instance uses their private conference rooms in the basement for various functions, and I am sure that from to time, they receive cash.  The have book sales that sale the books that are out of date or old to go into a department fund...

Yet, there are some people it seems to think that being able to support your own departments activities are wrong, and immoral.  The city should receive those monies even though others provided no help to secure them.  Just because it isn't law, doesn't mean it's a bad idea.  Perhaps instead of demonizing it, government should investigate how to do these cost effective or cost incentive methods and implement them into their protocols.

It is funny how a person might think that the bible would advocate squandering resources to require assistance that they could have otherwise provided for themselves.  I don't see an issue, moral or otherwise, you don't want to give money to the Garage, don't through money away in the trash...if the city wants that money, change what they do with those items instead of just throwing them away.  Until then, why not utilize that money for a good cause? One which brings incentive to the job, and allows one to prosper from which they had sowed...

Wait there is a bible quote for this...Reap what you Sow....perhaps others in the city should take lessons...

I don't think you understand what is going on here. Funding cook outs with public funds is not what is being questioned. What is being questioned is the process. Those funds have been improperly handled for 10 years now. Cash goes into the hands of the employee, we only see what they put into their fund, and then they fund cookouts with it along with other things.

What needs to happen and what is being made to happen is to have that money receipted, sent to the Clerk Treasurer to go into the proper fund, then the Garage dept goes and requests an appropriation. That is the proper way to do it. It provides for accountability of funds.

The way it was done for 10 years was essentially stealing from the tax payers. That has been stopped and the proper process will be followed from here on out.

Since it was assumed it would end up in a landfill instead of being recycled and money generated from it, some feel, it was proper for employees on city time, using city vehicles, and resources (gas), that the practice was proper. It was improper that no city garage worker done their civic duty of informing the proper authorities about the generation of income. Maybe they did and the administration at the time gave the ok. Either way it was wrong from the standpoint of accountability for tax funded expenses.

What did you use the city vehicle and gas for today while we provided maintenance, plates, and insurance on it? Oh, nothing, just went out driving around.

Why does this site always slam all city workers you don't even know the things they do just out of good heartlessness. Where are you when the lifting of these refrigerators and stoves and such items.

When all you have to do is call and they will come pick them up so if you are so worried what goes on with the money when taken and dis-guarded let start charging to pick them up it is not regular trash .

Hey mayor that is an idea or maybe find away to stop this site I truly hope she is sensible enough not to pay attention to your garbage. You need to recognize city workers( fire, police, garage, water ,parks ) they are all working on a smaller budget probably. Stop trashing them
