Student responds to International School of Columbus article

image

We just looked over that article here at school (not during class though) and I will shed some light on the situation...

1) About Mr Sims... "He is rarely in the building". This is not true, he calls students up on almost a daily basis to talk about things like grades, or try and be an inspiration or motivation to students.

2) St. Louis... What is wrong with bringing your family on a school trip? Students were told that their parents could also come with them if they helped pay. Mrs. Sims was even a chaperon to the trip. Where were they supposed to leave their children for 5 days?

3) "Last semester, a former student showed up with a knife and made it into the building and past staff and was going after a current student." This is a lie. He did show up, but not with the intent of pulling a knife on someone. He and his old friends were in the parking lot and there was an argument. He did NOT chase the student down or make it into the school. The only time he was in the school was when the staff took him there to wait for the cops.

4) Drugs have NOT been rampant at this school. This is the 2nd incident in the whole time we've been here of drugs. Go look at North or East or some other high school where there are drug busts on a daily basis. Also, the 3 students were not escorted out of the building in cuffs. One of the students was taken to the hospital by her father, and the other two were arrested.

5) The teachers do not come in stoned. Honestly, in my opinion, we have very GOOD and respectful teachers who take us and their jobs very seriously.

6) "I have heard from students and parents that Mr. Sims "threatens" families." No, he does not. He tries to get students to stay, not by threats, more by begging or trying to make deals (Such as "The student that get's the most of students to come next year wins a flat screen TV"). He has never threatened a student or a students family.

7) People are not scared. At ISC we are taught international- mindedness and that we need to think for ourselves. We are not intimidated by talking about these things, or people making up fake lies about us and our school.

If I didn't know any better, I'd have to assume that Mr. Sims wrote this retort himself. My daughter had an IEP and they did not honor it. When she failed most of her classes, he changed all of her grades to "C" - is that ethical? Lord, if all the former student's parents got together - heck even the former teachers - this man would be jobless.

Directed at "really?" MR. SIMS IS A GREAT PRINCIPAL! He genuinely cares about his students we go to this man for everything he there more than any principal I've ever had. You can literally walk into his office any time you're in need of help and he is there. He is relatable and he treats us like people unlike most principals. He cares about our education. I don't know about your daughter's grades but I don't have any problems with Mr. Sims and neither does anyone that I know that goes to I.S.C. He has so much to do to keep this school running, believe me it's hard when people are constantly slandering us and trying to break us down, that he doesn't need your rude comments about him on top of it. He is busy keeping the promises that he made to his students. Do you really have nothing better to do than sit around and try to ruin someone's reputation? Someone who has traveled thousands of miles to bring education to students that care, who has done amazing things for us and who has given us more opportunities than we could have possibly had in a larger school? Mr. Sims genuinely cares he moved his entire family here from out of the country to be here and help us out. He got us our charter, he fully intends to renew it, he is passionate about I.B. he has had a lot of experience with it. He is well educated and he is doing great things for the school whether you believe it or not. Don't ruin our reputation because you're angry. Grow up.

Unlike the "student" that is now directing his comments to me - the words I speak are the TRUTH. When we transferred out of ISC, there were a large number of her classmates that came too. You can defend him all you want. You can believe whatever you want. That's your right. However, the truth is much different. What I have stated is 100% verifiable facts. I am telling the truth. You need to grow up and quit insulting adults. Your principal is a bully and you're acting like one as well. If you don't believe me, go talk to former teachers and students to learn the facts.
