Karma Records selling "MixTapes" you can download for FREE

image

Updated 2/20/12 - bootleggingpresent participle of boot·leg Verb:Make, distribute, or sell illegally.

It doesn't come to us as any surprise that a business in the business of selling music, appears to have started downloading free music and copying the music onto CD-R's then selling it.

The idea behind the "mixtape" is everyone can download for free from the artists themselves.

The problem with this is Karma is selling the FREE music for $5 bucks.

It is against the law to copy and sell music on a CD-R (Recordable CD) because the sales take away from the profit from the actual CD.

This is even frowned on more when the artist gives the music away FREE and someone decides to sell it for personal, business gain.

I am sure that Karma which we all know always teeters on the border of legal or not. They're known as a "Head Shop" selling pipes, scales, incense, hideaway objects, and all the things we wanted as a kid.

The claim the items being sold are for tobacco products is for the Looney bins, cause we know they're used for smoking weed and crack and the scales, I mean why hide a scale in a CD case? TO HIDE THE SCALE FROM THE POLICE.

It isn't until those who loved downloading music, smoking weed, hiding things from their parents end up with a conscience about the right and wrong going on in the world.

Columbuzz always love a good story and believe if the right people get wind of this; it could shut or close the store down.

I would also bet once this article is posted it won't be too long the CD's will be shelved or discarded. Nah, I doubt that. Go Karma!

If you're selling something that's 100% not your work and you didn't pay for it originally to re-sell it then it probably is illegal.

It is ILLEGAL to SELL or GIVE AWAY FOR FREE any MIXTAPES with songs that are copywritten and you don't have explicit permission to distribute.

What does this mean?

It means that NO, you can't SELL a MIXTAPE.
It means that NO, you can't even GIVE A MIXTAPE AWAY.
