(COMMENT ID - 7636) Back in 1985 I was part of the "Lafayette Urban Ministries lobby" to do just that, eliminate the antiquated township trustee system. This form of helping the destitute and unfortunate had been developed back in 15th century England. It's misuse of funds hasn't changed a bit since then. People were handed out help before others on the mere fact they were members of the trustee's religious affiliation. It is the epitome of the "good ole boy" favoritism. The reason I got involved with its removal was due to a trustee initially denying me assistance and reversing his determination solely on the fact we attended the same church. Write your state legislators urging them to abolish this poorly outdated system.

Fred Barkes hasn't been a good trustee, unless you dream about fire departments when you sleep. He sent a phony e-mail to the state to lie about his financial status. He had time to run the ad a third time, been in compliance, and there would have been no issue. Instead, he chooses to turn on our local paper and lie to the state. We can only hope this is a crime worthy of prison. My guess is, this is the tip of the iceberg that this website has been harping about for years. When the truth comes out, and it will, people will be amazed at how sneaky and underhanded this clown actually is. HIs wife/office manager is an arrogant, condescending, sneak. His replacement is hated by almost everyone in town. His fire chief is about as ignorant and obnoxious as you can be. His house of cards is starting to fall. I'm guessing we will find that Fred is RESIGNING before more facts become public. Keep your eyes and your ears open. You are about to be amazed. People like Fred Barkes are exactly why the state is debating eliminating township trustees.

(COMMENT ID - 7587) I would like to say that there are definitely still improvements to be made in the investigative process used in some of the articles posted on Columbus man's page. Personally speaking, I know of at least two articles in which the person the article was about was never even spoken to about the information used. To me that would be an important part of confirming facts and remaining an unbiased reporter. A subsequent article posted with information directly from the original subject only had partial quotes used as well as altered statements. That is just purely biased reporting no matter who is doing the reporting. I'm not bashing just saying that there is room for improvement in the process used to separate unbiased facts from opinion and rumor.

I have been here in the states for the last 20 years, but this is one of the things I wish we would change here. In Germany when you go out to eat, you better make sure you have time to do so. There is no rushing you out. It is a custom to sit, eat and enjoy the company you are with or spend time with patrons. Everytime I go to any restaurant you feel rushed out, unless of course you go there at lunch and you need to leave quickly to make it back to work on time, then they take their time.

This is a very personal issue to me and my family because of my oldest son, 22 years old with 2 young children and they will never know their father unless he gets help. I spoke with the Crisis Hotline about this just last night. There is NOTHING here for this perpetual sess pool of Meth, Heroine, Crack Cocaine... amongst others. Also lost my best friend to Meth about 4 years ago. My son has been in prison, has a Class D felony, doesn't support his children, tears my family up with the Ups and Downs of the disease. Indiana Legislature has disapproved any funding for Rehab and counseling in and around Columbus, Indiana. There is one in Bloomington, Terre Haute, New Albany and several in Evansville. I have so much more to say, but not enough time and space to do it right now. I am all for getting a petition going and whatever else that has to be done to do something about this tragedy.

There I had a Captain that thought it should be mandatory for us to visit one of the concentrations camps. I used to think it was all hype and the holocaust was just a big joke until I went there. I have never been so humbled in my life because it was very apparent that something horrible happened. The films, footage and documentation were on display as well as going to visit the ovens that still smelled like burned flesh and hair. Also if you're logic is correct the entire country of Germany is on this big conspiracy as every citizen at that time I questioned would look down in shame and tell me they did not speak of that "Black time." Except one old coot that went into great detail about what happened in those camps and a few others that would give information when they realized I was serious and curious and not a moron looking to poke fun. I believe in the constitution and the right for people to express themselves ... even the uneducated such as yourself but I do not have to sit back and allow someone to speak down about something so horrific. To forget our past is a sure way for us to repeat it and in this case to forget about it is a disgrace to humanity as well as a crime against intelligence. You should feel ashamed of yourself.

It was not my intention to bring out full names of those involved, which as occurred. A story should be unbiased and report facts - this situation has taken on a life of its own which is an injustice to all involved. I have met Jason's children and mean no ill will towards them at all or in any fashion. The author of this site has my email should they wish to ask any question or need clarifications as to my comments. I said he didn't pay for the truck he was using. Regardless, this father was forced to pay child support. The mother had to take him to court to get basic child support and health care on the child - which he still has not done and was ordered in November to do. You brought this issue out to the public - don't you 2 get upset when the dirty laundry gets aired out. Great father. Wonderful reporting. You're a class act. Luckily your readership has enough sense to see how biased you are. Maybe you should foot the bills for his legal woes and pay his child support and his bills. You seem to be his new b%$#h.

The father has anger issues, has mentally, physically and emotionally abused my sister. She combats his often immature behavior by having CPD present whenever the father is present. He once hit her with a baby bag because she didn't pack enough diapers for him. Lets be honest...what kind of twisted person does that? He dodges the child support order so that he doesn't have to pay CS. He was told to carry insurance on his daughter and fought it. Again, what parent refuses to provide health care for their child? I'm sure you can agree that only a low life would do that. My sister has had to deal with her psychotic ex for too long, I'm sure you can understand her frustration. Drama every time you have to meet with someone wears you down. Her narcissist ex was so abusive she sought shelter at an abuse center. Her ex ( hoping for sympathy) tried to do the same. This guy is a master manipulator. I hope you don't ever have to meet him. Get this...when my sister was pregnant...this guys ex wife told her son to jump on my sisters stomach to kill the unborn baby. Now that my sister is no longer with this low life (I'm sure you would agree that he's the lowest form of life) he went back to his ex and tries to have her watch my sisters baby!! Can you believe that? Leave an infant with a woman who less than a year ago told her 7 year old son to kill the baby? You are right...he's sick and a menace to women and children. My advise to the author is to look closely in the mirror and make sure you're not a narcissist ex as well.

I've rented a place from him before and it was the worst place one could imagine. I was down on my luck and thought that living close to the downtown area would be great since I worked down there for a short time. There were times were we didn't have running water, there were waterfalls (NOT LEAKS) coming from the upstairs apartment, and nothing was ever fixed. I have no sympathy for the man. He probably took everything from there and now that he's caught by the new property owner he's making it look like it wasn't him. I have no respect for him!

(COMMENT ID - 7251) Yeah, there certainly is sufficient talent in the area, as we have tasted. Those Former and Shafted employees are experienced and "available". Employee-owned makes sense for C'bus, the Community. "Sources say that lawyers from Detours" (as most of the owners were) "walked off with everything but the kitchen sink". (How much was City/Redevel-owned?) So, it would not be a turnkey situation, but quite possibly with some City, State, IvyTech & Federal Job-training grants, a deal with the City, a few good chefs, and a good CPA with restaurant accounting experience, they could make a go of it. But, at same time, it shouldn't be counter-competitive to the existing downtown restaurants/bars, but complimentary. Something that would bring more people downtown. Yes, it is referred to as "Culinary Arts".

You might also be on to something there about the little guy taking that area over. There is alot of talent here in Columbus. All they need is the financial backing and mentoring. It could be a staging area to send out street vendors (which current downtown establishments abhor as predators). Creative affordable cuisine is an art in itself. Could the art of cooking something unique and affordable survive? You bet it could, and it wouldn't cost you very much a serving.

Secondly if it is costly for gas now it will be more costly for gas unless you are fortunate enough to acquire a mini van. These however are very costly to be modified for a wheelchair user. The state of Indiana will not even pay for the conversion of a mini van for someone in a wheelchair if you qualify for their Vocational Rehabilitation program for the disabled. They will only modify full size vans. Wishing you the best.

Since we are becoming a more diverse ethnic community it would also be nice to see more participants representing other cultures in these markets. A continual ethnic expo market. But, be forewarned. The mingling of people should be the priority before profit. If it deviates from that it will die. All the vendors should keep this in mind. Being a good host is what gave us the motto, "Hoosier Hospitality" and "The Crossroads of America". Be a shame if we evolved into hostility and double crossing.

This story was confusing because, the granddaughter was refered as "Jeff", when the parents took her back to ER; then she was called "Alexsis" by mom. I would have asked why the NP was using glue, as that could potentially cause an allergic reaction. Maybe they use that now, over butterfly stitches. Also, was it her toe or foot that had glass in it. They are two separate parts, so which was it... toe or foot that got hurt?? I don't see the connection between this and birth control ??? Don't you have a clause about staying on topic???

I could have dued. the Drs at schneck were surprised that I drove there without passing out. they checked my red blood count and it was extremely low. they did an ultrasound and found a tumor. crh is the most expensive bandage station

I was determined to see if carbon monoxide could lead to blood clots in the lungs and was surprised to find that carbon monoxide actually reduces the risk and has even been used in treatments to break blood clots up. So the theory of it being a cause have diminished. But, I do know that carbon monoxide causes headaches,m which several tenants of that house have complained about. And we know he was told to fix the furnace after it was inspected. They should not send clients to him until he does. And I think the County Health Department should look into the matter. Carbon monoxide can kill. If it didn't this time, it might the next.

(COMMENT ID - 7191) I will add that as a pregnant woman in the last 30 days of her pregnancy, I know that preeclampsia is something to be cautious of when pregnant. It can cause headaches, swelling, and blood pressure problems and if untreated it can cause seizures and blood clots. Although from information it does look like the carbon could be a major factor it could also be pre-e. If she was in a warm/hot shower she only increased the blood flow to her body which could have allowed the clots to travel to her lungs. I will pray for this family. RIP

He did what he did and nothing I do can change or justify that. I don't think he is innocent, but I think there are other things we should also think about that may have contributed. If someone were to start a conversation about an inappropriate subject and he were to continue the conversation then they are both at fault. He should get all of the blame simply because he is a male supervisor. And I know there were a few situations (when I was there) with another employee who (I'm pretty sure) still works there voluntarily having sexual related conversations with him. In those cases, they were both at fault, not just Mark.

(COMMENT ID - 7184) What I find strange is that if the carbon monoxide levels were in fact that high then wrapping the furnace would not help. Fact is wrapping the furnace would not do anything to reduce the CO levels that the furnace was putting out. Virtually every gas furnace produces some Carbon Monoxide, and its only when a furnace that has been properly installed to code is in need of service will it start to put out higher levels of CO. Or on the other hand you could have a furnace that is improperly installed with an undersized (or no) fresh-air inlet into the furnace room. This inlet is designed to let fresh air into the building to offset the amount of air exhaust gases rising up the chimney. The furnace exhaust gases vent back into the building under certain conditions) When a gas furnace operates it MUST BE ABLE TO DRAW IN FRESH AIR and if it is already creating high levels of CO then by wrapping it you are contributing to it continuous building up higher and higher levels of carbon monoxide and push it through out the home the via the duct work. In my professional opinion anyone that would tell you that wrapping a furnace will reduce it CO output is an Idiot!

Never showed, my brother had to shut the gas completely off to the stove. My son, who is 4, always complained of headaches, Had cat scan done and everything turned out okay, but hearing this scares me. As soon as we moved, his headaches went away. Also the house had black mold, he never told us it was in the flood etc

(COMMENT ID - 7178) If you go to doxpop.com, you can do searches for court cases for free, Look up Mark Mouser. It looks like he evicts most of his tenants. There are three evictions listed for this address alone in the past year. A typical slumlord will rent to anyone, never fix the place up, and evict them to get another victim in. By the comments posted, it appears that Mr. Mouser has been aware of the furnace issue for quite some time. We believe it's time to stop and fix the problem before others die in the same manner. I hope the coroner looks close enough to determine whether or not carbon monoxide was a factor in her death. If not, there will surely be another tenant moved in quickly and nothing will be repaired.

(COMMENT ID - 7177) To be quite honest this was an accident waiting to happen. I'm so sorry for the family! My sister was just put out of this home in January. Mr. Mouser knew of everything that needed to be fixed in this home as my sister had the same issues! So the furnace needing fixed is not anything new to him, if that is what the cause of death is. My sister has a counter suit against Mr. Mouser for the condition of the house for the whole year that she was there. In the last month or so of her being there, she too had complained of constant headaches. It is all documented in the court papers, so go to the small claims court there and u will read it all! My sister was also a part of the human services program, all he cared about was getting paid. She battled with the water bill being sky high as well because he kept refusing to fix the pipelines for the house. I feel like Mr. Mouser should be held accountable if it is found that the cause of death is due to carbon monoxide poisoning. He knew and should have had it fixed before anyone even entered the house to be rented after my sister was evicted!
